Welcome to Battle Harbour
Battle Harbour Heritage Properties
Situated on a small, near-shore island, Battle Harbour was for two centuries the economic and social centre of the southeastern Labrador coast.

Mercantile saltfish premises first established there in the 1770s developed into a thriving community that was known as the "Capital of Labrador".

Today
Eclipsed in recent decades by changing economies and settlement patterns, the former glory of Battle Harbour has now been revived. Six years of research and painstaking architectural restoration has breathed new life into this unique, historic place.

Through the efforts of Battle Harbour Historic Trust Inc., a not-for profit registered Canadian charity, the village of Battle Harbour is now a living commemoration of the life and society created there by Newfoundlanders and Labradorians during the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

Numerous historic structures, walkways and work areas have been restored or reinstated, and a collection of more than 500 artifacts related to the fishery and everyday life are on display and there is a special exhibit on the Labrador Fisheries.

Today, the historic premises at Battle Harbour are open to the general public, tour groups and workshop participants from mid June through to mid September. Discover this island, take a tour and stay on site to experience this fascinating era of Labrador history.
