The Southern Labrador and Northern Newfoundland Climate Change Workshop will examine the effects of climate change in the region including the potential economic, social and environmental impacts. Participants will include researchers in climate science and related fields, community and organizational leaders and people directly experiencing local and regional climate change challenges.
The main purpose of this workshop is to provide an opportunity for informed discussion of the issues of climate change and its effects in the Southern Labrador and Northern Newfoundland region. This event will be a forum for improved understanding and assessment of the vulnerability of the region to climate change. It will also facilitate the sharing of information on the current state of scientific research as well as regional perspectives and local experiences on the issues. The potential impacts of climate change on renewable natural resources will also be examined.

Workshop Activities Overview
Individuals can travel to Battle Harbour as part of a group originating in St. John's or join up with this group at either Red Bay or Mary's Harbour Labrador. All participants will travel on the scheduled 6pm passenger ferry service from Mary's Harbour on Wednesday June 23rd and return from Battle Island on the 9am passenger ferry on Saturday June 26th.
The agenda includes six time slots for presentations and discussion plus opportunities to participate in four optional guided tours two early am walking tours of the natural areas of Battle Island, a guided tour of Battle Harbour National Historic Site and a boat tour to visit the former fishing settlement of Cape St. Charles. Participants joining the group originating in St. John's will also have the opportunity to visit three other Historic Sites Point Amour Lighthouse, L'Anse aux Morts Burial Mound and Parks Canada's Basque Whaling interpretation centres at Red Bay.
