Island Hopping in the Labrador Sea
Trips Start from either Battle Harbour or Cartwright
Explore historic fishing waters and remote islands with a small group from both Battle Harbour and Cartwright locations.
Skim over the ocean in open boats cruise by icebergs, breaching whales, rugged shores and explore the St Lewis Straights archipelago that includes Battle Island and the islands of Sandwich Bay, Cartwright.
Start the Battle Harbour leg of your trip by travelling from Mary's Harbour to Battle Island on a narrated, 1.25 hour passenger ferry trip that travels by many islands and headlands in the St. Lewis Strait.
Glimpse back in time, into the day-to-day lives of former residents of the salt fish capital known as Battle Harbour.
"Island Hop" with knowledgeable local guides from Battle Harbour Historic Trust and from Experience Labrador http://www.experiencelabrador.com/home/welcome.htm , who will share the history of predecessors in The Big Land; ancient aboriginal peoples, the Vikings, European fishermen and settler families.
Guided boat tour routing is weather dependent. From Battle Harbour, a typical trip would include visits to Great Caribou Island, Double Island and a circumnavigation of Battle Island. From Cartwright, a typical trip would include visits to two islands in Packs Harbour and Prisoners' Island. Stories about how the island's got their names will be told and information shared about former residents and activities.
